McIlroy has been cleared to play in next week’s WGC – Accenture Match
Play in Tucson, Arizona, following a scan on his back.
The World
Number Seven went for an exploratory examination on Monday after
experiencing some discomfort during last week’s Omega Dubai Desert
Classic, but specialists discovered nothing worse than a ‘slight nerve
impingement in his lower back’.
McIlroy’s manager Andrew
Chandler said: “All the early season practice took its toll last week
and his back began to ache at the weekend. It was decided to get it
checked and thankfully there is nothing serious”.
The Northern
Irishman will continue to rest, relax and practice this week before
flying to Tucson at the weekend, where he will take his place among a
strong European contingent in the 64-player event at the Ritz-Carlton
Golf Club, Dove Mountain.
Last year the 20 year old reached the quarter final on his debut, losing 2 and 1 to the eventual winner Geoff Ogilvy.
